| The Surprise of Diabetes As with most any disease, we are surprised when we hear the diagnosis of diabetes. Suddenly we are propelled into a different world of monitoring blood sugar, watching diet, avoiding foods high in sugar or other carbohydrates. It's a challenge to eat out, be active or have to adjust to other changes which could effect blood sugar. If blood sugar is too high, it's a "slow death" and if blood sugar is too low, it can be dangerous in a very short time.
Diabetes can also be accompanied by other health issues. This is no surprise. When one system is unbalanced, we can often find other imbalances. As the rate of diabetes soars (more than doubling in the past 10 years) we can take a look at likely causes. Obesity is blamed as a major cause of type 2 diabetes, one that appears over time. We can have a whole discussion as to why people are obese to begin with. We can look toward changing diets favoring convenience (fast foods) as well as higher than acceptable amounts of high fructose corn syrup in nearly everything we eat. (high fructose corn syrup is also high in mercury, a very dangerous heavy metal).
But what about type 1 diabetes, when the pancreas just shuts down at a much earlier age and the body develops insulin resistance? Are these two types of diabetes that different? (Post your thoughts in my blog)

In 2009 a randomized, placebo-controlled, clinical trial documenting 6 months of Agaricus blazei consumption was published. The study revealed that consumption of the mushroom enhanced people's immune response. At the end of the study, subjects given Agaricus blazei increased their neutrophil levels (neutrophils are a type of white blood cell essential for the immune response). Researchers also noted that every subject given Agaricus blazei experienced a reduction in blood sugar levels.

Another randomized, placebo-controlled, clinical study revealed that Agaricus blazei consumption decreased insulin resistance. Both studies show that Agaricus blazei makes a great choice for immune system enhancement as well as for people concerned with their blood sugar levels.
